Ants of the genus Forelius tend to like it hot. They forage on days other ants deem deadly. This species, named for Henry McCook (of the fighting McCooks; http://gap.entclub.org/taxonomists/McCook/index.html) often nests in sandy soils. Nests of this species are often topped with crater-shaped mounds made up of the spoils (soil excavated from ant nests). These ants move quickly and when watching them the word frenetic often comes to mind. They seem to have somewhere they need to go very quickly, but are never quite sure just where that is.
