Pheidole tysoni is a relatively widespread species of the genus of big-headed ants. Like all species of its genus, Pheidole, this species has both majors with big, muscular heads and minors with smaller, roundish heads. P. tysoni tends to nest in sandy soils, though relatively little is known about its biology, even though it can be found in urban school yards from North Carolina to New York. No one even seems to know whether it tends to have one or multiple queens.
