This Pheidole species is uncommon, being recorded only in three counties in a single state, Florida. It likes to live in sandy soil near pine or oak trees. When a habitat is disturbed, it is one of the first species to re-inhabit the area. It likes to gather food, mostly seeds, close to the nest in the morning or around sunset. When bothered, these ants will curl their little bodies around particles of soil and play dead, so they are close to impossible to see!
